Summary
SEMI-INDEPENDENT TOUR: Immerse yourself in the heart of Tuscany with this semi-independent 3-day tour. Spend a full day exploring the stunning Chianti region, where you’ll enjoy wine tastings at renowned wineries, sample exquisite local oils and vinegars, and tour scenic vineyards. Visit the medieval town of San Gimignano, renowned for its towers. And spend two nights in the Renaissance capital of Florence, with free time to explore.
Itinerary
Day 1
Florence
On arrival in Florence, make your way to the hostel. Check in is from 15:00, but if you arrive early then you can leave your bags here and head out to explore independently.
Please note: This tour is designed for younger travellers looking for a backpacker-style experience and to meet like-minded people. The average age on this tour is around 21 - 35, and we are unfortunately unable to take any travellers over the age of 39. We have lots of group tours across our destinations that are suitable for travellers of all ages, browse our website or get in touch to find the perfect trip!
Please note: On this semi-independent tour, you will be unguided on days 1 and 3 and will join a shared group excursion on day 2, with other travellers and a local tour leader.
Day 2
Tuscany Wine Tasting & San Gimignano
Florence - Tuscany - Florence. Experience the charm of Tuscany! On the second day, embark on a day trip to the Chianti region, beginning at 9:40. This will be a group tour, led by a professional local tour leader.
Meeting Point: Our day of sightseeing starts at 09:40 in Piazza della Calza, located at Piazza della Calza 6, Florence, 50125, Italy.
Enjoy breathtaking scenery, delicious food, and renowned Tuscan wine. Our first stop will be a winery located about an hour from Florence, where you'll sample four distinct wines, including the famous Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and Super Tuscan varieties. You’ll also taste a 30-year-old balsamic vinegar and delectable truffle extra virgin olive oil. A passionate wine producer will guide you on recognizing various flavours and refining your palate. Rest assured, this is a relaxed experience focused on enjoyment.
The second stop is at another local winery in a picturesque area known for producing the D.O.C.G. Vernaccia white wine, overlooking the renowned towers of San Gimignano. Here, winemakers will take you through the vineyards and cellars, sharing secrets of wine and oil production along with tips on perfect wine and food pairings. You'll savour three wines, including the famous Vernaccia white, a rosé, and a Chianti Colli Senesi D.O.C.G. There will also be an opportunity to purchase local products and wines at attractive prices to take home or send to loved ones.
In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore San Gimignano, the most beautiful medieval town in Tuscany. Wander through its narrow streets, shop in charming local stores, and admire the iconic skyline of towers while enjoying gelato from a world-famous gelateria. Your tour leader will provide maps and recommendations on the best places to visit. Returning to Florence for the evening, you can dine at recommended restaurants or bars or enjoy a relaxing night in.
Day 3
Florence
On the third day, check-out is required by 10:00. However, you can store your bags in the hostel's luggage room and use the remainder of the day to explore more of Florence at your own pace. Make your own way to your next destination or the airport for your onward flight.
